This Cornish Fishery is found on the site of the Spirit of the West Theme Park, just off the A38 between St Columb Major and the Padstow roundabout. The site has a main lake of 5 acres that holds a large head of carp to 25lb +  and Pike to 27lb 8oz. Running around the outside of the fishery site is a long, canal like lake. This holds a multitude of species and is used as a match / pleasure venue. We have had carp to 16lb + from the canal this year, along with the usual Bream, Tench, Perch,Roach, Rudd and the not so usual Ide, Chub and the occasional elusive Barbel.

The main lake dates back 34 years now and is one of the oldest day ticket lakes in the area. At the moment some new landscaping work is being under-taken on the main lake so two banks are a bit of a mess while the machines complete the work. Once the area has greened up again and is back to its picturesque self I'll update this bit of the site.

The main lake is quite heavily weeded and it is under the saftey of the numerous lilly pads that a head of about 250 carp live. The lake holds a large number of Ghost Carp, both commons amd Mirrors, with several over the 20lb mark. A batch of mint Commons are showing on the baits this year, mostly between 12 and 17lb. These fish have grown on from some 5 lb'ers stocked a few years ago. The rest of the stock is a mixture of strains, some heavily scaled linears, a few fully scaled mirrors and some deep bodied grey mirrors that go to 24lb.

Tactic wise most things work, they love bait and 4-5 fish a day averaging doubles is a realistic catch over a couple of kilos of boilies. Floater fishing gets them going but they know all about the hookbait by now ! Most attention needs to be put on leading around to find some nice smooth silt or harder spots amoungst the weed, if the presentation is perfect the runs will follow. If the place is quiet you only need to fish a foot or so out and you can watch the areas colouring up as the fish come in and feed.
